Jersey
Woolies are a dwarf breed of rabbit that were first recognized by
ARBA in 1988. Jersey Wooly rabbits were
developed to be a small, friendly breed with easy care wool. Today they are a
very popular breed and most shows boost large classes of Jersey Woolies, they
appeal to a wide variety of people due to their sweet personalities and pretty
wool.
Jersey Wooly coats have a unique coarse wool that has an abundance of guard hair which tends to keep it tangle free. This trait makes grooming much easier than other wooled breeds such as Angoras. Young woolies tend to have a softer coat that will molt into a firmer adult coat. Simple grooming such as running a slick brush or comb through the coat will help keep the coat in show quality shape. Some breeders will also use high powered pet blowers to preserve the coats density and giving the rabbit a well rounded fluffy appearance. Jersey Woolies are recognized in a multitude of colors and patterns including self varieties, shaded varieties, tan patterns, pointed whites and broken combinations.

Jersey Woolies usually have smaller litter sizes with 3-6 kits being born on average. Being a dwarf breed Jersey Woolies can have "peanuts," in their litters, a fatal condition where the kit inherits double dwarf genes. Woolies make great mothers and have plenty of wool to line their nests with to keep their babies warm. Jersey Woolies also make excellent pets due to their gentle nature and easy care wool.
